‘Little Fuggers’ in Cod.icon.313 from 1542 (on fencing)
There are a number of women who study karate or jiu-jitsu for self defense. I personally think there are better alternatives, one in particular requiring finesse more than chi and strained elbows : )
Perhaps the best is fencing. It requires training and practice like any other martial arts, but training is done with swords. This might seem barbaric, but I will share an interesting example of how effective it can be.
A woman fencer with a stick for a sword was matched off with a very large muscular man with a beer bottle as a weapon (but it could of been anything available). The gentleman was athletic. And tall. Someone yelled ‘Start!’ The man would have been dead three times and nearly neutered in a real fight under 30 seconds, if I can recall the time correctly. The woman looked as though she exerted as much effort as pushing dust. Now, I’m not advocating carrying daggers and swords, however. Remember, she used a stick : ) Miss Folly
